You know you are a teacher when you come home and want to go to bed at 8pm. Up at 5am, at school by 6:30am, and finally home by 6pm to continue working on stuff til bedtime at 9pm. The days are long but I would not change my job. I have a very active class with several who are still very young. I realized today that 14 of my 20 have birthdays after Jan. You have no idea the difference a birthday can make until you teach Kindergarten. We have been learning the every day things that most of us are taught by parents. My kids have not been taught to close the bathroom door, to flush and wash your hands. They have no filter and will say anything. One said to me this last week "What the hell?" I quickly said that we do not talk like that at school. I have many that come to school not knowing how to deal with emotions and get angry easily. We have learned breathing techniques and how to channel our emotions. You'd be amazed at what 5 year olds know these days.
Highlights of the week:
*One ate glue and an eraser, jumped off her chair
*One punched a kid in the ear (he didn't know better) and doesn't understand you can't jump off the picnic table
*One does not know how to control his hands
*One picked the chair up and threw it down
*One told me he hated me and then realized that wouldn't help his case
*Two tried to run from me on the playground
Most exciting of the week:
*One learned to write her name in 2 days!!!!
*We were complimented by the prinicpal and other teachers for walking in the hallway with no talking and a straight line only 4 days into the school year!
We celebrate the little things and the big things!! Teaching Kindergarten is a challenge but also one of the most rewarding things ever! There is never a dull moment, we are always on the go!
Welcome to our classroom for 2010-2011!
